Academics are first, athletics come second for Alex Boatman

LEWISTON, ID - KLEW cares about you and that's why each week during the school year, KLEW News teams up with Lewiston Orthopedic Associates to highlight an outstanding local high school student. Tonight, KLEW News introduces you to Lewiston High School Senior Alex Boatman.

This Lewiston Bengal knows his passion for football can get him far on the field, but it's his 3.9 GPA that he counts on for his future. His name is Alex Boatman and he's this week's Academic All-Star.

"They say junior year is pretty hard and that is true," said Alex. "Took a few AP classes, some college classes and you just have got to roll with the punches."

And despite a rigorous high school schedule, Alex hasn't lost sight of his ultimate goal, to play Division One football.

"Our parents have always instilled in us academics are first; athletics come second," said Alex. "But we love doing both."

He said he'd like to stay in the northwest after graduation, but he's keeping his options open.

"They don't like to give out scholarships too much, so if you're a smart kid they'll get you on the team," said Alex.

Despite having toured many colleges, he knows his last year of high school is still very important for his future.

"Don't let the pressure get to you," said Alex. "Get enough sleep so that you can do well in school and on the field."

Congratulations, Alex, you're this week's Academic All Star.
