"Going into my freshman year, I blew out my knee and I've had two knee surgeries," said Lewiston High School Freshman Tanner Spear. So then, my sophomore year, that was the first year I ever swam."
Tanner's been a varsity swimmer since day one, and before he blew out his knee, received a varsity letter for baseball.
"I've played every sport, and swimming would probably have to be the hardest," said Tanner.
He is also a member of the National Honor Society and has a 3.35 GPA.
"It is kind of hard because swim practice is two hours long and it is pretty exhausting," said Tanner. "Usually I try to get either my homework done before or after practice."
Tanner said doing well in school is all about commitment.
"It shows that you can be an athlete and an academic scholar at the same time," said Tanner.
