With a nearly perfect GPA and always learning more Nicole Sheer's future looks bright

COLFAX, WA - KLEW cares about you, and that's why each week during the school year, we team up with Lewiston Orthopaedic Associates to highlight an outstanding local high school student.

Rachel Dubrovin introduces us to Colfax High School Senior, Nicole Sheer.

Nicole Sheer is a three-sport athlete at Colfax High School.

"Sports just, it makes you learn life lessons that you wouldn't necessarily learn anywhere else," said Sheer.

She excels in track and volleyball but she said at the moment, basketball is her favorite.

"I just like playing the game," said Sheer. "It brings you closer together with your teammates. You get to know them on a whole different level."

As a senior preparing for college... Nicole said it's important to remember that school comes first.

"It's going to be the grades that affect me in the future, not necessarily the sports," said Sheer. "So I really like to focus on my grades and make sure I'm getting the highest grade possible."

Nicole's GPA is nearly perfect, at just below a 4.0. She said her favorite subject is science.

"It's just interesting to learn how things work, and you can always learn more," said Sheer. "There's never a limit to how much you can learn."

She said being a student athlete is a balancing act

"Usually, it's doing homework on the bus after games, or it's doing it the next morning early," said Sheer.

But she's confident that the hard work will pay off when she goes to college.

"I think I'll stay here in Washington," said Sheer. "I like the small town feel, I'm not really a big city girl."

Congratulations, Nicole, you're this week's Academic All-Star.
