So far the Hurricane Creek fire has burned 120-acres. It was sparked early Monday morning by lightning. According to U.S. Forest Service Public Affairs Officer Darcy Weseman, several crews are battling the blaze; however, the terrain is making it difficult for firefighters to gain ground.
"It's very steep and heavily timbered with lots of down timber and ground fill, so it's a lot of timber and some tree torching and the steep terrain in that area makes it difficult to fight," said Weseman.
A type-three team and smoke jumpers are working to contain the fire. Due to concerns for public safety, Forest Service leaders are issuing a closure order for the Hurricane Creek trailhead until further notice.
