ISP trooper has near-miss with semi
CULDESAC, ID —
An Idaho State Police officer had luck on his side Monday afternoon after a semi-truck missed him but hit his patrol car.
Trooper Braden Hammond was out of his unit on Highway 95 near Culdesac, investigating a separate crash.
In that incident, police said a 15-year old driver from Kooskia lost control of his pickup, went off the roadway, and hit a tree. Both he and his passenger were taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.
Trooper Hammond had the section around milepost 292 blocked in both directions for the tow truck to pull the teen’s pickup out of the ditch.
That’s when he had his near-miss.
“I was walking away from my vehicle and I heard braking,” he told KLEW News. “I look back and I see a semi flying towards me. The semi was airborne, it ended up hitting my patrol car,” he said.
The semi ended up into the ditch.
Miraculously, no one in that crash was hurt.
The cause is under investigation.
