Applications for Citizen Police Academy offered at LPD

LEWISTON, ID - The public has the opportunity to work hand in hand with the Lewiston Police Department, to make the community a better place to live.

LPD will host it's annual Citizens Police Academy. it's an opportunity for the public to learn about the criminal justice system, crime prevention and strengthen the citizen-police partnership. Sergeant Brandon Hopple encourages everyone 18 and over to participate in
the free academy.

"We'll range in topics, anywhere from DUI investigation to criminal investigation," said Hopple. "We will have our communications come in and speak to them about dispatch center. And it just gives them a broad overview of the whole Lewiston Police Department."

Becoming familiar with a gun, a mock crime scene, and a ride-along experience with a police officer are some of the hands-on experiences you can expect.

It will run from January 14 through March 25. Classes will be held each Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 9:00p.m. at the Lewiston Police Department Training Center. The programs free, however leaders ask that each person makes a commitment to attend each of the 11 classes.
