April 30th deadline has arrived for driving with studded tires in Idaho

LEWISTON, ID - Just a friendly reminder that starting Wednesday anyone driving in Idaho could be ticketed for driving with studded tires.

After midnight tonight, it becomes illegal and driving with your snow tires could cost you a $124 fine. Bill Snyder of Bruneel Tire Factory said besides being illegal, studded tires aren't good for the road.

"As the stud hits the road, not only does it break the tip off of the stud, but it minutely digs up the pavement," said Snyder.

Snyder said they do get a rush of people coming in to get their tires switched over during these last few days after the deadline. So if you haven't taken your studded tires off your vehicle, Snyder suggests you do so as soon as possible.
