Artist Maya Lin has been working with members of the Confluence Project to create a listening circle, similar to an amphitheater to compliment the natural beauty of the park. The island that sits on the Snake river won't be heavily altered, according to the project blue prints.
Confluence Project Executive Director Jane Jacobsen said they have the basalt stone they plan to use to build the amphitheater ready to go, they just need a little extra funding.
"We need about $550,000 to complete the island," Jacobsen. "It's about a $1.7 million project to complete the work."
The funding request is headed to the state level, and if it is approved by legislators in Olympia, the park should be open next fall.
