Asotin Co. Commissioners draft moratorium to delay legalization of pot

ASOTIN, WA - Asotin County Commissioners are in the process of prohibiting the use and sale of marijuana in the unincorporated parts of the county.

Commissioners are drafting a moratorium that would delay the legalization of pot in the area, but only up to a year. The commission can't legally prohibit marijuana forever, but they can push it off until they can to create rules and guidelines that fit the needs of the county.

"It's pretty standard procedure," said Building Official/County Planner, Karst Riggers. "I think you're seeing it throughout the state of Washington for planning departments to put that temporary moratorium on there."

The City of Pullman already has one in place. Clarkston is also looking into the idea.
