Asotin Co. firefighters on standby to fight fire near Cle Elum

CLARKSTON, WA - More than 800 Firefighters are still working to contain the Taylor Bridge Fire near the Cle Elum area that is estimated to have damaged just short of 23,000 acres.

The state mobilization act, that recently brought state wide firefighters to our area, has sent help to assist those working to contain the fire in Cle Elum. Asotin County Fire District No.1 could be the next in line to help contain the Taylor Bridge Fire as resources and mutual aid are depleted.

"We could be called at any time," said Asotin County Fire District No.1 Chief Noel Hardin. "Our guys could be out from three to 14 days but we need to be able to leave within a couple of hours of a phone call so we are prepped and ready to go for that."

The fire that started Monday is at 25% containment at this time and Asotin County Fire District 1 Chief Noel Hardin said it could be another week before it is fully controlled.

Two Canadian air tankers and two National Guard helicopters have been deployed to fight the fire, which as of Thursday still has high growth potential.

According to, an inter-agency incident information system, they're currently working to protect structures and construct and secure fire lines.
