Back-to-School Safety Tips Your Kids Should Learn
LEWISTON, ID —
Continuing our special back-to-school coverage, the next few weeks will be busy for parents and kids as they prepare for the upcoming school year. It’s important to keep safety in mind as the first day of school is fast approaching.
The American Red Cross just came out with a list of seven simple tips to help keep students safe as they make their way to and from school.
The first tip, is to make sure your kids get to their bus stop early, and stand back from the curb while waiting for the bus. Once the bus arrives, make sure your children know to wait until the bus comes to a complete stop, and the driver signals for them to board, before they get on the bus.
Another important school bus tip, always stay in view of the bus driver and never walk behind the bus and always only board their bus, and not alternate ones.
If your kids ride their bike to school, wearing a helmet can be crucial to their safety, and also they should always ride their bike on the side of the road that is going the same direction they are riding.
Also, remind your kids of stranger danger. Tell them not to talk to or accept a ride from a stranger. And lastly, teach your kids their phone number, address and how to dial 911.
