Backyard Harvest accepts contributions from local growers

MOSCOW, ID - Backyard Harvest, in Moscow, administers locally grown fruits, vegetables and eggs free of charge to people throughout the region.

The non-profit company gathers food from local harvesters around the area who then donate the goods to the elderly and families deprived of a healthy diet. In the last five years, Backyard Harvest has collected more than 65,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables from small harvesters in this domain.

Here's how it works. If you have a small harvest, you can call Backyard Harvesters at (208) 669-2259. The company will register your small scale crop, and when it's ready to be harvested, send volunteers to gather your produce.

Currently, 16 food pantries and meal programs in the area receive locally grown produce from May to November.
