Blue Mountain Fire Dist. requests state mobilization for wildfire

HELLER BAR - Wildfire season is upon us, as the first major fire was burning in our region.

Officials said the Blue Mountain Fire District has requested state mobilization for backup help with the blaze along the Grande Ronde River.

The fire, which started on private property on Saturday afternoon, has torched upwards of 1,200 acres of land, reaching as far north as the Heller Bar area.

Asotin County Fire District No.1 Chief Noel Hardin said state officials are determining whether or not to approve the state mobilization request at this time. Winds are being blamed for the movement of the fire along the hill that has threatened homes.The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
