Last year, more than 4,100 women participated in the the "Big Latch-On" by simultaneously breastfeeding around the world. La Leche League Leader Devony Karlinsey-Schlotman said the goal of the event is to bring awareness to the health benefits of breastfeeding.
"Nature intended, it's the best thing you can give your baby," said Karlinsey-Schlotman. "They've done many studies on it and found that it's made for people basically. There are many health benefits."
Schlotman said they're recruiting breastfeeding moms and supporters in the area to beat last years number. The Big Latch-On will take place on Saturday at Pioneer Park in Lewiston which will also conclude World Breastfeeding Week.
