Cause of Clarkston landfill fire impossible to determine

CLARKSTON, WA - Investigators still aren't sure what caused a small wildfire at the landfill.

Three engines and eleven firefighters from Asotin County Fire District One fought a blaze that broke out Sunday afternoon. Reports of black smoke came from as far away as Lewiston. Luckily the blaze was knocked down in just under an hour.

Assistant Fire Chief Mike Hohman said landfill fires aren't uncommon, however determining a cause is nearly impossible because of all of the debris. You're encouraged to always be cautious about what you throw away.
