Civic Theatre Now Under City's Ownership
LEWISTON, ID —
The City of Lewiston has officially taken over the civic theatre. City councilors voted 5-2 in favor at Monday’s meeting.
The building has been condemned since august after structural engineers found it at risk of collapse. The theatr’s liability insurance expires Sunday.
The theatre board gifted the 109-year old building to the city. Since its closure, no one has been allowed inside and a stretch of 8th street has been shut down.
A structural engineer is scheduled to look at the building on Monday. The city’s first priority is to get that section of road re-opened.
