Clarkston Fire Department wins bid on used ambulance

CLARKSTON, WA - The Clarkston Fire Department will have a fourth ambulance added to their fleet after winning a bidding war for the used vehicle.

The ambulance, which is 13-years-old and has about 50,000 miles on it, cost nearly $6,200. The money for the used ambulance will come from the Clarkston Fire Department's Equipment Replacement Fund. Fire Chief Steve Cooper said that after calculating the costs for repairs and equipment stocking, he felt the bid was affordable and fair.

"One of the concerns was, what's the most affordable way to bring that ambulance to town," said Cooper. "And we'll be exploring the different options."

Cooper said they have two options to get the ambulance to the Valley from Vashon Island, Washington. They will either have two staff members drive over in one vehicle and drive the ambulance back or fly out one of their staff members to pick it up.

Last month, the Clarkston City Council authorized Cooper to make a bid with no spending limit.
