Community joined together for kick-off fundraiser "Relay for Life"

CLARKSTON, WA - The American Cancer Society's 'Relay for Life' is officially underway. Volunteers and participants gathered Thursday night to kick-off fundraising for the year.

Community members learned more about the annual event and were able to register. 'Relay for Life' provides an opportunity to celebrate cancer survivors, remember those who lost their battle, and join together to fight back against the disease.

"Virtually everyone knows someone that's been diagnosed with cancer or who will be and so if you don't know someone right now, you probably will in the future," said Sara Cassan. This is a great way to be involved, fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and just eradicate cancer."

"It gets the community together as well as brings people from being caregivers, the stress and daily stress of that into being around people in a support group rather than just doing the daily care giving that you do for cancer," said Relay For Life Event Chair, Amber Lockhart.

The 2014 Relay for Life will be held in the L-C Valley on June 20th. On average the event raises $100,000 for the American Cancer Society, and this year they're aiming for the same goal.
