Creation of Public Utilities District to help fund Asotin aquatic center

CLARKSTON, WA - The Asotin County Commissioners are working towards creating a Public Utilities District to help bring in funding for the Asotin County Family Aquatic Center.

Commissioner Brian Shinn said the Commerce Department is conducting a financial feasibility study to see if creating a two-tenths of 1% sales tax is plausible and reasonable for county residents. Shinn said if the PUD and sales tax receives a majority vote, the funding opportunities look promising.

"Estimates range from the Department of Revenue for the State of Washington, the last calculation they did for us on this was $550,000," said Shinn.

Shinn said that with the money, the Aquatic Center could possibly enact fee reductions in the future.
