Department of Homeland Security grant will help staffing of Clarkston Fire Dept.

CLARKSTON, WA - The Clarkston City Council approved the acceptance of a $455,000 grant offered to the Clarkston Fire Department from the Department of Homeland Security.

Clarkston Fire Chief Steve Cooper said there's no match required from the local government for the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant. The Clarkston City Council was happy to hear that important bit of information along with the difference it will make for the fire department.

"This grant provides for employment of two full time firefighters and a full-time equivalent to replace firefighters when they're gone on some sort of leave," said Cooper.

FEMA, along with the U.S. Fire Administration, will administer the grant which go into effect at the end of September. That means new staff members hired will start in their new positions at that time.
