The growing need for three additional detention officers at the Nez Perce County Jail is recognized by many, but where that money will come from to pay the salaries for those positions is still unknown. Sheriff Rodriguez believes the money for these positions will be approved, due to the steady growth within the jail.
"We're just under staffed right now," said Rodriguez. "And we looked at the safety of the community as far as the inmates, safety as the officers, and that's why we're looking to get more people on board."
Sheriff Rodriguez went on to say that there's no security risk, rather it's about keeping within their allotted budget and keeping overtime hours under control.
A decision by the Nez Perce County Commission could come on March 13th.
