Driver in fatal crash near Pullman identified
PULLMAN, WA —
Washington State Patrol reported that 28-year-old Fernando Reyes Plascencia was driving north on Highway 195 south of Pullman when he drifted onto the shoulder, lost control, crossed the centerline, and hit a southbound semi-truck head on.
Reyes Plascencia was pronounced dead at the scene.
His passenger, 32-year-old Havier Torresrios, was critically injured and Life-Flighted to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.
The driver of the semi-truck, 28-year-old Derek Cocking of Colfax was not hurt.
“The witnesses that were following the passenger vehicle said it was all over the roadway, had left the roadway, crossing over the white fog lines several times,” said Sgt. Courtney Shawley.
“They just couldn’t dial 911 fast enough to report this vehicle, and unfortunately a tragedy has occurred.”
It’s unknown if alcohol was a factor in the deadly collision.
Highway 195 was closed for nearly 7 hours Friday.
