According to Washington State Patrol Trooper Courtney Shawley, 31-year-old Ruth Leritte of St. John was traveling westbound on Highway 270 at around 4:00 p.m. when she lost control of her SUV on the icy road. Leritte's vehicle drifted into the oncoming lane and was T-boned by an eastbound SUV. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
State patrol investigators determined Leritte was driving too fast for the icy conditions and that was what caused the accident.
"Just remind everybody, we're in that time of year now," said Shawley. "Please slow way down. If in doubt, slow way down so something like this doesn't happen."
The driver of the other vehicle is 34-year-old Jeana Boyd of Moscow. She is 28-weeks pregnant. She suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Pullman Regional Hospital. She was treated and released. Her baby was unharmed.
