The 42,000 acre fire threatened residents in the Dixie and Red River areas. However, substantial progress has been made to the point that firefighters are slowly removing hoses and pumps from structure protection sites. Roads have also been opened back up to Dixie residents. McGuire Complex Public Information Officer Trevor Augustino said they're a little concerned about winds coming in Tuesday, however the rest of the week looks promising.
"Temperatures are going to drop and there's supposed to be a hard freeze on Tuesday night," said Augustino. "The change in the weather, along with the shorter days means that we're expecting the fire behavior to spread should be low, and the air a lot less smokey."
Crews continue to work on containment lines, and have begun back-hauling excess equipment.
