Fee increases for Clarkston residents after city council approves budget

CLARKSTON, WA - The Clarkston City Council has approved the proposed 2013 budget Wednesday evening that includes fee increases for Clarkston residents.

Residents should expect a 50 cent increase in stormwater fees, increased fees for building permits and a 1% increase in property taxes. Mayor Kathleen Warren said the fee increases were necessary and overdue for the city.

"What the increases do is they pay for the cost and the time and effort that the staff at city hall has to go through to process them," said Warren.

A roughly $200,000 gap between next year's budget and the projected revenue is to be taken from the reserve funds. The budget did not allot any funding for the Asotin County Family Aquatic Center this year, a hot button issue for residents in the county and city limits.
