Firefighters anxiety dissipates once Inauguration Parade began

LEWISTON, ID - The Lewiston Fire Department Pipes and Drums group had a once in a lifetime opportunity to perform for President Obama at the 57th Presidential Inauguration in Washington D.C.

Captain Jeff Jensen said they were initially a bit nervous about the length and time of the parade. It was 40 minutes straight, with over a distance of a mile-and-a-half, but Jensen said that the minute they started playing, those fears disappeared.

"Maybe because of the cooler temperatures being that time of the year, or maybe because we were so excited about playing for the president, it ended up not being bad at all," said Jensen. "In fact we went on to play at a couple other venues after the parade, so we still had some more gas in the tank."

Jensen said that at one point in the parade, they passed by the viewing stand and were a stone's throw away from the president himself. The group from Lewiston joined twenty other firefighters from around the state of Idaho to perform in the inaugural parade.
