Full detour in place for Fleshman Way Interchange Project
CLARKSTON, WA —
It’s been years in the making, and now the full detour is in place for the Fleshman Way Interchange Project.
Highway-129 between Clarkston and Asotin is completely closed at Fleshman Way, as they build two roundabouts to help traffic flow in the area.
Now the full detour is in place, which will send drivers up to 13th Street and around. On the first day of the closure, officials say some drivers weren’t understanding where the road was closed. They had several people drive through the construction zone, and that causes problems for workers and safety issues for drivers.
"It looks like asphalt but they are pulling out six-inches, and so if you took your brand new car and ran it off that lip, it would be pretty bad for your car,” said Dustin Johnson, Asotin Co. Public Works Director. “There's dump trucks, there's equipment, there's all kinds of stuff down there and that's why we've had to have it closed down, we don't want to have people interacting with our construction zone."
The closure will last 60 days but Johnson said they are doing their best to limit backups to five minutes. He also said as of this week they are officially half-way done with the project.
