The first discovered this year were in Payette County. In 2006, Idaho had the highest number of West Nile illnesses in the country with almost 1,000 human infections. That number dropped to 40 in 2013, resulting in two deaths. A mosquito bite is the most common way the West Nile Virus is spread.

Make sure all screens on doors and windows are in good shape. Try not to have standing water around your home, and if you have bird baths or ponds, change the water every week.
