Homeland security grant money helps local disaster preparedness

LEWISTON, ID - Nez Perce county has been awarded a large federally funded grant from Idaho State Homeland Security.

More than $47,000 has been awarded for a grant that was submitted back in January. This grant money is from the Homeland Security funds that Congress set aside due to the catastrophic events of 9-11. The money will go toward local disaster preparedness, which includes, training, communications, emergency planning and community preparedness and protection.

"These funds can only be used for those projects that fall within the grant guidelines," said Emergency Management Director Mel Johnson.

This money will be used to help out both city and county law enforcement agencies and first responders. This grant is 100% federally funded.
