Hundreds of high school athletes suffer head injuries in fall sports

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - More than 500 high school athletes missed practice or game time just this past fall because of a concussion or potential concussions.

That figure could be twice as high as only 75 out of 155 schools responded to the survey, conducted by the Idaho High School Activities Association.

High school football, probably no surprise, resulted in 353 reports, followed by girls soccer with 75. Boys soccer had 43, volleyball 34, and cross country had four incidents.

The IHSAA says the information will help track changes and trends and help decide if more training and precautions are needed.
