Idaho Heritage Trust Awards over $163,680 to Preserve Historic Idaho

BOISE, ID - Since 1989, the Idaho Heritage Trust has worked diligently to fulfill its mission "to save historic Idaho for tomorrow." 2012 has been no exception. The Idaho Heritage Trust Board of Trustees is pleased to announce awards of $113,680 in matching grants to historic preservation projects in both rural and urban communities throughout our great state. In addition, the Trustees approved $50,000 in architectural, conservation, and archaeological technical assistance.

The Idaho Heritage Trust was pleased to award grants to the Panida Theater in Sandpoint, the Indian Springs Community Club in St. Maries, the South Hill Stairs in Wallace, the Corliss Steam Engine in Coeur d'Alene, and the 1912 Center in Moscow. These grants were partially funded in cooperation with the AVISTA Corporate Fund for North Idaho. This endowment fund within the Trust endowment provides additional funding to support grants in the AVISTA service area.

Other grant awards this year include the PI&N Depot in New Meadows, the Odd Fellows Lodge in Silver City, the Lincoln Creek Day School in Fort Hall, First Presbyterian Church in Malad, the Stanley Museum in Stanley, and the Oregon Short Line and Union Pacific Depot in Victor. These grants were funded with a $25,000 grant from the Steele-Reese foundation for historic preservation projects in communities with population less than 5,000.

The Idaho Heritage Trust was founded in 1989 by the Idaho Centennial Commission to preserve the historic fabric of Idaho through a program of grants and technical assistance. Funds generated by the Trust's copyright of the Centennial Commission red, white and blue license plate design goes into a permanent endowment fund. The interest from the fund, in partnership with local communities and other partners supports the preservation of historic buildings, sites and artifact collections throughout Idaho.
