According to Washington State Patrol Sergeant Scott Davis, at around 1:00 Thursday afternoon, 24-year-old Ryan Tritten was driving southbound on Highway 195 and made an illegal U-turn. His car was hit by a southbound truck that was driving behind it. Tritten and his passenger, 23-year-old James Sullins were air-lifted to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane with possible head injuries.
"There's no criminal charges at this point, nobody's impaired," said Davis. "We just have to nail down why the U-turn was made and then we'll decide what enforcement is necessary."
The driver of the second vehicle, 82-year-old Norman Druffel, wasn't injured. Sergeant Davis said there's a possibility that Tritten was trying to turn around to help a disabled vehicle.
Tritten is currently listed in satisfactory condition, and Sullins is in serious condition. Washington State Patrol is continuing its investigation.
