Increased crematoria burials spurs Normal Hill cemetery to update grounds

LEWISTON, ID - A cemetery that opened in the 1800's has seen very little changes through the years... until now.

The City of Lewiston is in the process of developing a master plan for the Normal Hill Cemetery. Lewiston Parks and Rec. Director Tim Barker said they're looking for someone to come in and help with the layout design and landscaping by providing a more modern way to do things.

"We found that over 60-percent of burials now are cremains so the trends are completely changed from what we originally had planned," said Barker.

Right now there's about seven acres not developed that the city would like to see landscaped, because as it stands now there are less than 300 plots left. The city will be accepting proposals at the end of February.
