It has been a blessing and learning experience for the new Miss Idaho

MOSCOW, ID - Miss Idaho was crowned this past weekend, and she is actually from our area.

KLEW Palouse Bureau Chief, Alex Crescenti has more on the story.

"And your new 2016 Miss Idaho USA is," said master of ceremonies.

"It's been a long time coming," said Halper.

..Sydney Halper," said master of ceremonies.

"I was standing there with my first runner up Ashley and I didn't really know what to feel," said Halper. "It was almost like an out of body experience."

It's official, Sydney Halper is your new Miss Idaho USA. This is her third year in the competition. In her first two attempts she came up short of the crown. But she never gave up and saw this as a blessing in disguise.

"Looking at it that way I see the last couple of years as a learning experience and so I feel really blessed to be in this position now after all of that hard work, after three-years," said Halper.

And now that she has this crown she plans on advocating for adoption initiatives and she wants to tell her stories and her experiences and be a mentor in the community. She tells me her biggest idol is her mother.

"She adopted me, she was diagnosed with breast cancer a little over a year ago," said Halper. "So she's my rock, she's my hero I look up to her."

So what's next for Sydney? She will continue to be an advocate for adoption as well as breast and ovarian cancer, and as if she's not busy enough with she will be finishing up her senior year at the University of Idaho all while getting ready for the Miss USA Pageant.

"Going on and trying to bring that crown back to Idaho," said Halper.
