Jack O'Connor Days keeps famous outdoor writer's legacy alive

LEWISTON, ID - There have been many famous people with ties to the area, however for outdoor enthusiasts, no one compares to Jack O'Connor.

The Jack O'Connor Center out at Hells Gate State Park has been open for eight years, and for the past three, an event has been held to commemorate the famous outdoor writer. It's called the Jack O'Connor Days. The facility houses his memorabilia and his big game collection.

Chairman of the annual event Mark Yochum said they're trying to keep his legacy alive.

"He died in 1977 so we're trying to carry on the Jack O'Connor tradition," said Yochum. "The hunting and the ethics and stuff he did by keeping the center open and displaying the stuff he and his wife actually did."

The Jack O'Connor Center is open seven-days a week at Hells Gate State Park.
