Jazz Festival headline artist enjoyed teaching young musicians

MOSCOW, ID - The Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival has come and gone, and festival organizers at the University of Idaho said it was another great year for the event.

Jazz Fest Director Steven Remington said the tickets sales are down from previous years, but the number of schools and students that attend the event is increasing. Saxaphone player and vocalist Grace Kelly was one of this year's headlining artists. She said she used to attend the jazz fest as a student, and now her favorite part of the festival is the opportunity to teach other young artists.

"You can see them soaking it in, light-bulbs going off," said Kelly. "And I think that they're getting inspired and they're going to leave here being pumped up. And that's the best."

At only 21-years-old, Kelly was one of the youngest artists to attend the festival as a professional musician. Hundreds of musicians from around the world came to Moscow for the 47th Jazz Fest this year, as well as thousands of high schoolers from across the Northwest and Canada.
