Keep Christmas gifts unwrapped when traveling by airplane

LEWISTON, ID - The holiday weekend is upon us and for many that means the stress of traveling.

For those traveling on an airplane you may want to think twice before wrapping your gifts. While wrapped gifts are allowed, if a bag alarms security officers, your gift may be unwrapped to take a closer look. There's also the chance that security officers will not have the time to undo your hard work but instead throw the present aside.

"We would ask passengers not to bring their gifts wrapped and instead either put them in a reusable gift bag or just wrap them at their destination," said TSA Spokeswoman Lorie Dankers.

Presents in your checked luggage may also be unwrapped or thrown away. Items purchased after the security checkpoint have been pre-screened and can be taken on the plane.
