Kirk receives "Prudential Spirit of Community Award" for his volunteer work with Special Olympics

LEWISTON, ID - A local teen is headed to the nations capitol to be nationally recognized for his volunteerism.

Lewiston High School student Cameron Kirk,17, is among 102 teens nationwide being recognized by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards. Each teen will receive $1,000, an engraved medallion and a trip to Washington D.C. There they will compete for one of ten top youth volunteer awards.

Kirk said that he never expected to be honored for his work with the Special Olympics program.

"I love just the spirit of the athletes and just to see them smile and be themselves," said Kirk. "And just realize that they're people just like us and seeing them grow and become who they are now."

Kirk has been involved in the Special Olympics as a coach and fundraiser whose events have generated $64,000 over the past five years.
