Lightning caused 16 wildfires in Wallowa-Whitman National Forest

JOSEPH, OR - Fire crews in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest have been busy fighting more than a dozen fires started by lightning on Wednesday.

While crews continue to work on the Hurricane Creek fire, 16 new fires broke out in the forest over the past two days, however U.S. Forest Service Public Affairs Specialist Darcy Weseman said crews were ready to go.

"Most of them were less than an acre in size and crews were on them right away and able to contain them," said Weseman.

Forest rangers encourage everyone to be safe and careful since forest conditions are very dry right now.
