Local firefighters fight leukemia & lymphoma with Scott Firefighter Stairclimb

SEATTLE, WA - Local firefighters are joining teams across the state for 'stair climb' in hopes of raising more than $2 million.

Firefighters from the Clarkston Fire Department, Asotin County Fire District No.1, and the Lewiston Fire Department are taking part in the 23rd annual Scott Firefighter Stair Climb.

They'll climb the Columbia Center in Seattle this Sunday to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Reserve firefighter Scott Niebuhr has tackled the 69-floor challenge before, a task that isn't easy with all their gear.

"It's about seventy pounds of gear," said Niebuhr. "Including an SCBA air pack...breathing bottled air."

If you know someone who's suffered from or is battling a blood-based cancer, send a picture to one of the teams before Sunday and they'll dedicate their climb to your loved one. Log on to our KLEW News Facebook for a link to the team's pages.
