Low spring Chinook run forces fishing closures

LEWISTON, ID - Chinook salmon numbers are lower than expected, and as a result, fishing closures continue to spread throughout the region.

Less than a week ago the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife put an emergency halt to all Chinook fishing on the Snake River in the Clarkston area. And now the Idaho Fish and Game Department has closed all Chinook salmon fishing along the Clearwater, as well as the north, middle and south forks of the river. The fishing closures are due to the low spring Chinook run size.
