Lowering bond denied, trial set for Hepburn on rape charges

LEWISTON, ID - A local man is now headed to trial after pleading not guilty to rape charges.

Matthew Hepburn, 21, said he's not guilty on all three counts of first degree rape. These charges follow a grand jury indictment after he was accused of having sex with three underage girls.

Defense Attorney Greg Hurn spoke about Hepburn's bail.

"Your honor we're asking the court to significantly reduce the bond or release him on his own recognizance," said Hurn. "My client is a resident of Clarkston, he's a life long resident Lewis-Clark Valley. And he is a father and he does have one child with his common law wife in Washington."

Prosecuting attorneys said Hepburn's inability to appear for other court matters and the seriousness of the charges themselves, are enough reason not to lower the $50,000 bond.
