LPD receives certification from Assoc. of Public-Safety Communications

LEWISTON, ID - The dispatch center at the Lewiston Police Department is getting nationally recognized for its training standards.

In order to work at LPD, each communications specialist has to complete an 18-week training program. Before now, that program didn't meet the minimum national standards.

It's not something that's required, but Communication Commander Cindy Felton said she wanted to take that extra step.

"I wanted to make sure that our training program included everything that a dispatcher should know for liability purposes," said Felton. "Just to make sure that they are well rounded, taught, everything that they might need to know now or in the future as a communications specialist."

The certification was only awarded to a handful of agencies across the country this year.
