Money saving energy tips for the sweltering months of summer

LEWISTON, ID - Most of us will do whatever we can to save money, but what about saving money on your energy bill this summer?

Mike Tatko is the Regional Business Manager for Avista in Lewiston. He said there are things people can do to save money while keeping their homes cool. He says using a barbeque, instead of the oven saves a lot of energy. Also, he suggests covering your pool or hot tub when you're not using it.

"You don't want to be opening your oven to check your food, you can turn on the light and look through the window instead," said Tatko. "Also, you don't want to run your dishwasher unless you have a full load, because you'll save so much more on hot water usage and energy that way."

Tatko recommends having a professional come to check the cooling system in your home. He said it's important to do that now, before the temperature is unbearable.
