Thursday afternoon a welding spark from some construction work started a brush fire along Highway-270, just east of Pullman.
Whitman County Rural Fire District 12 was dispatched and immediately called for aid because high winds were spreading the fire and they were running out of water.
Pullman, Palouse, Colton and Moscow Rural Fire Departments responded and once they arrived, they had to move quickly because a home was in danger.
"It was on a hillside where it only had one way up into the residence and that driveway was compromised right away by the fire," said Pullman Fire Chief Mike Heston. "It burned right over the top of the road where the fire trucks were supposed to go, so we had to put that out quickly before we got there."
The fire burned four acres and was put out before it reached the home.
