The shutdown doesn't prevent Nez Perce County from receiving the money because it was transferred to the state of Idaho prior to the partial shutdown. The commission decided that applications for one grant in the form of $58,000, and another of $28,000, will be submitted to the Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security for the final step.
"The bulk of the grant money we use to actually build capabilities in Lewiston and Nez Perce County most of the money is slugged for response, emergency response," said N.P. County Emergency Management Administrator, Mel Johnson.
The overall limitation to the money is that it has to be used for public safety.
