Nez Perce Tribal Gaming Enterprises awards $342,000 to area schools

LAPWAI, ID - Several schools will enter the approaching school year in a better financial position, thanks to the Nez Perce Tribe.

The Nez Perce Tribe awarded $342,000 to area schools on and off reservation lands. The education grants are funded through revenue from the gaming enterprise, and more than 35 awards were given out this year.

"We are looking at purchasing the nemo technology, which is a interactive technology that the kids can access primary documents, interview people live that we can get to, places that we can't travel and it will just open up a whole new world for them," said Nez Perce Elementary School teacher Jacky Mosman.

"We just felt that it was a mechanism in order for the tribe to reach out and help school districts, universities and fill the gaps where the State of Idaho is not fully reaching that mandate to provide funding for education," said Nez Perce Tribe Treasurer McCoy Oatman.

The Nez Perce Tribe gives grants to schools every year. A strong need for updated technology was identified as a main theme in many grant applications this year.
