The Army Corps of Engineers has set up a contract for more than $10,000 with the Nez Perce County Sheriff Office to have extra officers patrolling corps areas within Nez Perce County.
Marine Coporal Jerry Florence said the job isn't all about looking for violators, but also educating the public.
"People are just now coming out so they may have taken some equipment off last year, or the equipment is not up to the same standards as it should be," said Florence. "So we're kinda out there reminding them. If they don't take the hint then we don't take enforcement action."
These additional patrols will last throughout the summer. Florence said one of the biggest violations is people not wearing life jackets.
