N.P. Tribal Police officer acquitted of lying in shooting investigation

COEUR D'ALENE, ID - A Nez Perce Tribal officer accused of lying to the FBI is found innocent by a federal jury.

Officer Trevor Garrett was investigated by the FBI after his colleague shot and killed a man during a low-speed chase near the Waha area.
FBI investigators believed Garrett lied about details of the shooting, however his attorney, James Seibe said Garrett suffered from a psychological block because of the traumatic incident.

"Your brain has a protective mechanism where it shuts out some of these things that are colossally, " said Seibe.

Before the acquittal, Garrett was facing a felony charge of falsifying statements which could've resulted in a couple years of prison time.
