On-line competition forces Staples consolidation of stores

LEWISTON, ID - Staples stores across the nation are closing their doors but it's unclear if the Lewiston office-supplies location is one of them.

A spokesperson for Staples said as many as 12% of the north American stores are closing by 2015. They're hoping to save $500-million for the company that's hurting from online competition.

KLEW News spoke with a local manager who said they can't comment on the matter. A corporate public relations spokesperson said they don't have any details about which stores they expect to close at this time.

Meanwhile, Cerberus Capital Management, the company that owns Albertson's is acquiring Safeway. No stores are expected to close as part of the deal valued at about $9.4-billion.
